Alamo Civic Wrap-up

Alamo Civic Wrap-up

We had a great event nearly a month ago. We are excited that so many people took interest in participating and building civic minded web apps, and mobile applications.

There are some interesting new details we wanted to summarize about the event:

  • 30+ Professionals Gathered for an Entire Day!
  • Created Web-app For City Contractors
  • Had People Travel 159 Miles for Event
  • Created Aquifer iOS App
  • Received Media Coverage
  • Organized in 2 Weeks
  • Completed Projects
  • Great Food
  • Had Fun

But most importantly we built the first bridge in San Antonio that links civic minded responsibility with technology, and that’s important. We know that we make our futures and now we have tools to forge that path.

Before we completely end this we still are morally obligated to share this work with everybody.

In the coming weeks we are inviting everyone back to plan meetings with city officials to share these projects and listen to their concerns and ideas.

Our next meeting is Thursday July 10th, 4:30 PM – 6:00 pm at Geekdom Rand.

Before I end this post I have to share some of our best moments from San Antonio’s National Civic Day of Hacking.

We Made Apps

  • Find Small City Projects
  • Built in Reporting Tools
  • Segments by Minority, Women, Veteran, and Hub
  • Register Business, or Job
  • Post a City Project
  • No More Newspaper Ads

And an Edwards Aquifer App

  • Uses Address to Alert Designated Watering Day
  • Push Notifications for Watering Times & Rules
  • Pulls Web Reminders in Background
  • Live Aquifer Tracking Data
  • Built in 4 Hours!

Thanks! Wayne Hartman & Douglas Mendizabal
